Author Guidelines

1. Submission Policy VoyGull Press accepts submissions via two tracks:

  • Book Proposals: Authors should submit a single proposal document (PDF or Word) following the structure outlined below.
  • Full Manuscripts: If the manuscript is complete, authors may submit the full text. However, we strongly recommend including a proposal document as the first file to assist our editors in the initial assessment.

2. Preparing Your Proposal Please upload a single document containing the following elements. (If you are responding to a specific Call for Proposals, please ensure you address any specific criteria listed there).

  • Title & Abstract: Working title and a 300-word synopsis.
  • Project Description: Scope, argument, and contribution to the field.
  • Target Audience: Who is this book for?
  • Table of Contents: Annotated with brief chapter summaries (300 words each).
  • Sample Material: 1-2 sample chapters (if available).
  • CV/Bio: Short biographies for all authors/editors.

3. Formatting Your Manuscript To facilitate the peer-review process, please format your documents as follows:

  • File Format: Microsoft Word (.docx) is preferred. PDF is acceptable for initial proposals but not for final production.
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12pt, double-spaced.
  • Anonymization: As we usually employ Double-Blind Peer Review, please ensure that the main manuscript file does not contain your name. Remove identifying metadata from the file properties (File > Info > Check for Issues > Inspect Document).
  • Headings: Use clear, hierarchical headings (e.g., 1. Introduction, 1.1 Context, 1.1.1 Case Study).

4. Citation Style VoyGull Press prefers APA 7th or Chicago Style for our publications.

  • Consistency is key. Whichever style you choose, it must be used consistently throughout the manuscript.
  • Consult the APA style guide
  • Consult the Chicago style guide

5. Images and Third-Party Rights Given our focus on film, theatre, and visual culture, we welcome image-rich manuscripts.

  • Resolution: Images embedded in the Word doc are for review purposes only. For final publication, you must be able to supply high-resolution files (300 DPI minimum).
  • Permissions: It is the author's responsibility to obtain permission to reproduce third-party copyrighted material (film stills, production photos, etc.). Please flag any potential copyright issues in your proposal.

6. Language We mainly accept manuscripts in English. For manuscripts of other languages, please contact us at info@voygull.com.

  • Spelling: We prefer UK English (e.g., colour, theatre, analyse), but US English is acceptable if consistent.
  • Alt-Text: We encourage authors to provide brief descriptions (Alt-Text) for all images to ensure accessibility for visually impaired readers.

7. Fees VoyGull Press is a Diamond Open Access publisher. There are no Article Processing Charges (APCs) or Book Processing Charges (BPCs) for authors. Your work will be freely available to read online immediately upon publication.
